People I like: Konstantin Grcic

Discovering new cool designers is a day brightener. I always find myself feeling more creative after being exposed to creative ideas- in particular visual ones.

Creative designer to be covered today is: Konstantin Grcic. Grcic is from Munich; he studied design at the royal college of art in London. His Mayday-Lamp produced by Flos was selected into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Here are couple recent designs I can see myself integrating to my daily life:

Sleek design of "Chair B":

A beautiful collection made from CNC machined white Carrara marble - included in are a reclined chair (SULTAN) and two different side tables (GALATA and TAKSIM); named after neighborhoods of Istanbul.

And Table B- which would make a very cool dinner table, made using aluminium extrusions - an industrial technology which combines superior structural properties with an elegantly sleek aesthetic.

(Sear+ben)ch

With N moving into the new house, my search for cool designs have started again. While we are in the process of putting things together, there is a need for a bench. So I have been browsing through some benches...

I like rough solid wood that lets you see its life...I like pieces with flaws.

Here are some that I like:

The Bertoia bench; simple and sleek design.

Of course the Giulio Bench, with sleek and elegant features

The complete set in this picture is beautiful

I have run into this really cool piece while making the search:

Alon Meron's Goldmedal design...Very cool. I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Stairs..? Bookshelf..? Both!

I love form that comes with function... Although one would have to either climb too high or bend over too low to reach the books...

Istanbul Range for VitrA

All the myriad forms of H2O are represented in this range for Turkish bathroom design company VitrA.

Inspired by its working title "liquid space," the range includes slip-cast ceramics that form basins like droplets and brass pebble wall-units.
